Mixing

Mixing is where recordings can really come to life, and I'm a firm believer that it should be a collaborative process. You may have a particular sound or feel in mind for your music that goes beyond simply providing a reference track. For this reason I believe it’s important to have an open discussion with every client before we begin a mixing project. This enables us to better align our mutual vision for the final mix, to share ideas and suggestions, and ensures that all music is given the care and attention it deserves.

My Approach

Some genres I’ve worked with in the past include; Indie, Jazz, Rock, Pop, Post-Rock, Folk, Big Band, Electronic, Funk. Although every genre has it’s own unique set of characteristics, my personal view is that the role of a mixing engineer remains unchanged in any situation – to balance, create clarity and focus, and engineer an experience that engages the listener from start to finish.

Rates

My standard mixing rate for a single track where the arrangement is similar in size to a full band or ensemble is £150. If the arrangement is more complex or requires detailed editing work, such as tuning, drum augmentation, re-amping, the rate will be slightly higher. Similarly, if the track is stripped back such as a vocal and accompaniment then it’s slightly lower. Project rates are also available if your project consists of multiple tracks.
